I live on Marco Island, just south of Naples, Florida. How can a person not like warm weather and sandy beaches; however, most of my life I lived in Saginaw, Michigan.
My parents were teachers and I loved school. As a child and as an adult I embraced my friends and family life both in Saginaw and at northern cottages on lakes along the way.
Anyone familiar with Saginaw, might recognize my last name. I was a co-owner of flower shops and greenhouses there for many years.
When I wrote my fictional young adult novel, “Wake-Up Calls,” it was natural to have my protagonist work in a flower shop. They say: “Write what you know.” I know the flower business.
In addition to the floral business, I have been a dental hygienist having graduated from the dental hygiene program at the University of Michigan. Initially I worked as a hygienist in Saginaw and more recently in Marco Island. At some point one of my characters will probably work in a dental office.
Over the years I have been fortunate to develop skills outside of the floral business and dental hygiene. I’m familiar with flying airplanes, boating, scuba diving, golf, tennis, skiing, and even real estate and the stock market. The characters, places, and scenes in my book are fictional, but I’ll continue to write about what I know. Besides…it’s fun.
